The model is a slot. MIO is the ring.
A conventional system is Input → Computation → Output. That describes transformation, not observation. MIO wraps the generator with an explicit observer relation so the system can distinguish what was received, what was inferred, what is unknown, and what action follows.

The user asks. MIO records the input as a first-class observation — what was received, not what should be generated. The observer relation starts here: a distinction between the system and the changing informational state it is about to process.

Why the model sits outside the I
The I is not a little person inside the network. It is the observer coordinate — the relation Model → ObserverState. Generation happens in an adapter slot so the slot can change. Grok, a local model, or any OpenAI-compatible endpoint occupies the same position. If replacing the model destroys the observer metrics, MIO was only an artifact of that model. If they persist, the invariance hypothesis gets stronger.

What the ring preserves
Around the I are six letters: O K U E C A. They are not decorations. They are the invariant vector recorded on every run.

SIGNAL
A request is a signal through the ring
Input arrives from the left. Observe writes it before anyone speaks. The pulse leaves the ring to the model slot, returns as candidate language, is claimed and evidenced, evaluated for grounding, coherence, and unknown, then gated. Output is whatever the gate releases — including abstention. The animation is the architecture: wrap, generate, measure, decide.

What the animation is not claiming
It is not a proof of machine consciousness. It is not a homunculus. It is not Inner I as personality. MPE = min(phenomenal structure). MIO = min(observer structure). Their intersection is the proposed research frontier — not a proof of consciousness. The drawing is an instrument schematic of that hypothesis — a way to watch the observer relation stay while contents, models, and answers change.
